Brown Oak Burr bowl.
Quite spectacular piece of a large Brown Oak Burr resulted in this natural edge bowl.
Most Oak is a pale colour , but occasionally one comes across "Brown " oak which has this deep warm colour.
An added bonus is when it is "burred", exhibiting, as here the wonderful flame effect running up the sides of the bowl.
Burrs are formed on a tree when clusters of epimorphic cells develop and cause the growths found on the trunks of trees . Most commonly on Oak.
The pale areas are the sap wood showing on the edge of the bowl.
