Peter Thomas
Living Wood

Enclosed Burr Ash bowl.17 cm W x 18 cm H.

This semi- enclosed bowl was turned from an Ash Burr, displaying all the features of a burr, ie feathering and fiddleback grain.

Occuring infrequently on Ash trees , this burr was a rare find. Burrs form when a proliferation of epicormic buds grow, causing growths on the branches and trunks of trees.

Another feature of this bowl, are the very close growth rings, indicating a hard life and very slow growth, probably in poor soil or an exposed site.

Copper inlay used to fill natural flaws in the wood.

Oiled for use with food.

17 cm W x 18 cm  H.
