Pierced rim Laburnum bowl.14 cm W x 11cm H
A departure from my usual type of work , in that the rim of pale sap wood has been pierced to create a " lace" effect.
Typical of Laburnum ,is the chocolate coloured heart wood contrasting vividly with the cream sap wood. This effect only achieved by turning the wood when unseasoned and "green" , before the sap wood looses its brightness , which inexplicably does stay as the wood becomes dry. If seasoned conventionally the sap wood turns an unattractive grey. By turning thinly, 3-4 mm the wood can dry without splitting.
