Square Albitzia bowl
This square bowl was turned from a section of the trunk of an Albitzia tree, otherwise known as the Pink Silk Tree, or Persian Silk Tree or sometimes the Mimosa Tree. Exhibiting a dark chocolate brown heart wood , contrasting with the pale sap wood. Widely spaced growth rings indicate fast growth.
Square turning demands a degree of caution,as , when spinning on the lathe , the corners are invisible. This can be helped by placing a white cloth or card on the lathe bed , shining a light across , thus enabling a vague outline to be seen.
Some flaws around the pith area have been inlaid with copper making an additional feature.
