Spalted Horse Chestnut lipped bowl.
The very pale wood of the Horse Chestnut is here strikingly contrasted with the vivid black and light brown markings caused by Spalting, the result of fungal infection in dead wood that is left lying on the ground , now inert once the wood is dry.
A very lightweight wood , was , for this reason ,in the past used to make wooden legs .
